For the Love of Education: Art for a Cause Impact Update!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

In the spirit of this day celebrating love and giving, we would like to update you on some exciting new developments at Do Good As You Go.

We are very pleased to share with all of our wonderful supporters how some of our partner organizations and individual youth are benefiting from the donations received at the June, Art for a Cause event in NYC!

Today’s update is all for the love of education!  Meet Danelli, Alma and Miriam, three talented youth photographers from Mexico, whose lives have been impacted by photography workshops and college fund support !

Thank you for your continued support!♥

Emerging Artist: Danelli!

Danelli was 15 years old  when started her first photo workshop in 2010 with Do Good as You Go volunteer Eric Ibarra. Since then she has participated in three more workshops! From the beginning,  Danelli showed a great interest in photography and was a dedicated student in general. Aside, she had “the eye”.

Danelli grew up in the Buen Pastor, a home for girls whose families cannot provide for them, are struggling with domestic abuse or drugs and alcohol. Danelli’s parents left for the United States when she was about eight years old to seek employment and have not returned. She grew up in a home with her older brother and sister as her caregivers.

Danelli made the choice to stay return to live in the Buen Pastor when her sister became pregnant at age 15. When it came time for her to enter high school and leave the home, she asked if she could stay one more year. Danelli explained that she knew that she needed the structure and “parental support” offered by the madres (nuns) and Tere the social worker.

“Truthfully I am so happy!  It is such a great opportunity you all are giving me and I want to take advantage of it 100%,”

Danelli has made incredible decisions for herself as a teenager and now,  as a young woman. After graduating high school, she was working to save money to attend university, in hopes to study tourism and English, as she sees a wider variety of employment opportunities for herself on this path.

We are happy to report that with the help of the sale of her image at Art for a Cause exhibition in June, she has been taking private English classes and preparing for the entry exam to the University of Guanajuato.  Your support will allow her enter the University and cover tuition to complete her first year in the Tourism program!  Danelli

is excited to be taking advantage of all the opportunities provided to her, and we are so happy to see the impact this funding has provided!

Check out more of Danelli’s beautiful photography below and in our Anthology!
