NEW! Earth & Small Business Associates

NEW! Earth & Small Business Associates

We are expanding! We are proud to introduce Earth and Small Business Associates-a new network of ecological organizations and small businesses around the world.

What is an Earth Associate? A social-impact organization that strengthens the relationship between the local community and its environment, preserves natural habitats, and promotes and supports efforts to create sustainable tourism.

What is a Small Business Associate? A small business or social enterprise committed to protecting the environment and local culture, run entirely by local people (such as a cooperative or family business), and uses the power of the marketplace to overcome social and environmental challenges.

Through this growing network, travelers will have expanded opportunities to volunteer, connect with local communities and Do Good As They Go while supporting ecological initiatives and community-based businesses.
Upcoming newsletters will feature each new addition to this fantastic network.

TODAY, PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW ASSOCIATE IN NEPAL!

Survivors Creating Real Social Change

SASANE

Kathmandu, Nepal
Founded in 2008 by survivors of human trafficking, Samrakshak Samuha Nepal (SASANE-meaning “Let’s Protect Ourselves” in Nepali) is a non-profit organization focused on empowering fellow female survivors, victims of gender-based violence and women at risk of being trafficked.SASANE’s primary focus is its paralegal training program, providing paralegal training to 45 survivors. Once certified, the women are placed at police stations and in border patrols areas around Nepal. Their goal is to increase the number of trafficking complaints formally filed with the police. Additionally, SASANE’s paralegals facilitate anti-trafficking awareness programs to 60 government schools in the KathmanduValley, and provide informal education and programming in the remote mountain villages of Nepal.Recently, SASANE has partnered with the Planeterra Foundation to launch Sisterhood of Survivors (SOS), a tourism program that prepares women, many of whom are at risk of being re-trafficked due to their limited education and job skills, for work in Nepal’s growing tourism industry. The SOS staff welcomes travelers to their guesthouse in Kathmandu for a home-cooked Nepali lunch. All funds generated from this program are used to support survivors as well as provide sustainable funding for SASANE’s paralegal, education and awareness programs.VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Assist SASANE with English tutoring, capacity-building activities, computer skills courses, counseling, legal and/or human rights training, fundraising or research. Female volunteers are also graciously welcomed for an extended stay in the guesthouse.
